1982 NLCS Game 2: SD @ Mon.

October 7, 1982

  Steve Rogers and the Montreal Expos evened up the NLCS 1-1 by defeating the San Diego Padres 6-5. Both teams came out swinging in the 1st inning with each team scoring 2 runs. Ruppert Jones hit a 2-run homer for San Diego and Andre Dawson hit a 2-run shot for Montreal. The game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 6th when Tim Wallach led off with a homerun. The Expos scored 2 more runs in the inning chasing Padres starter John Montefusco. San Diego came back with 2 runs off Rogers in the 7th making it 6-5 Montreal, but that would be all the scoring for this game. Jeff Reardon came in to pitch the 9th and got the Save for the Expos.
 After a day off the teams will resume the Series in San Diego. Eric Show (9-6, 3.18 ERA) will start for the Padres. Charlie Lea (16-6, 2.30 ERA) will start for Montreal.

The Montreal Expos nipped the San Diego Padres 6 to 5 at Olympic Stadium in a
hard fought contest.
 
Montreal had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning when they
had 4 base hits.  They ended up being the winning runs.  Jeff Reardon was
perfect in the ninth giving him his 1st save on the season.  
 
The win went to Steve Rogers(1-0) who allowed 5 runs in 8 innings. John
Montefusco(0-1) was charged with the loss.  He was knocked around by
Montreal, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
