1982 League Championship Playoffs

October 5, 1982

  The MLB League Championship playoff series will begin today in the AL. The AL West Champion California Angels will be hosting the AL East Champion Detroit Tigers. In the best of 5 series, the first 2 games will be in California before the series shifts to Detroit for the remaining games necessary.
  The NL League Championship playoffs will begin tomorrow. The NL West Champion San Diego Padres will be at the NL East Champion Montreal Expos for the first 2 games before coming back home to San Diego.

Detroit (99-63) and California (96-66) were 6-6 head to head this season in the AL.
