1982 ALCS Game 3: Cal. @ Det.

October 8, 1982

  The Detroit Tigers defeated the California Angels today 2-1, taking a 2-1 lead in the best of 5 ALCS. Young Tiger pitcher Jerry Udjur went 6 2/3 innings allowing 1 run in getting the Win. Dave Rucker and Elias Sosa pitched 2 1/3 innings of shutdown relief with Sosa getting a Save. Detroit got a run in the bottom of the 1st after Lou Whitaker led off with a triple and Alan Trammell followed with an RBI sacrifice fly. Jerry Turner hit a homerun in the bottom of the 2nd. That provided all the runs the Tigers would need today. Bruce Kison pitched well for California going 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Offensively the Angels could only get a solo homerun from Doug Decinces. They went 0-5 with men in scoring postion.
  Milt Wilcox will get the start for Detroit tomorrow. California will counter with Tommy John.

At Tiger Stadium, the Detroit fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Jerry
Ujdur(1-0) finally bested his California opposite, Bruce Kison(0-1), by the
score of 2 to 1.
 
Ujdur gave a fine effort for Detroit.  He went 6 and 2/3 innings surrendering
5 hits and 3 walks.  The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither
team was able to score again.  
 
Elias Sosa earned his 1st save.  Kison was charged with the loss.  He pitched
8 innings allowing only 4 hits and 1 walk.
