The Chicago pitching staff couldn't stop Pittsburgh's Bill Madlock (pictured) from getting a hit today. For that matter, the Cubs could hardly stop any opposing batter from getting a hit as Pittsburgh pounded them 18-8. The Pirates had 25 hits in all and Madlock was a perfect 6 for 6 with 3 RBI. Chicago wasn't too bad at the plate themselves with 8 runs scored. The teams combined for 37 hits, most in a 9 inning game in MLB this year.
