1982 AL Opening Day Game Stories

April 6, 1982

 On the 2nd day of play in the 1982 AL season two teams had their home opener. California's Ken Forsch went the distance as the visiting Angels defeated the Oakland A's 5-3. In the other game Seattle's Al Cowens hit 3 doubles and had 4 RBI as the Mariners defeated the hometown Minnesota Twins 10-5.

Ken Forsch tossed a complete game as the California Angels outscored the
Oakland A's 5 to 3.
 
California tallied 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning. The critical plate
appearance was by Rod Carew who disappointed the partisan crowd when he
doubled which was good for two runs.  California finished with 9 hits in the
victory.  
 
Forsch(1-0), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Rick
Langford(0-1) absorbed the loss.  He allowed 4 runs and 5 hits in 6 and 1/3
innings.

Right fielder Al Cowens hit 3 doubles and had 4 RBI as the Seattle Mariners
defeated the Minnesota Twins 10 to 5 at Metrodome.
 
Minnesota found themselves trailing quickly as the Seattle bats came through
in the first inning as they scored 2 runs on 4 base hits.  Seattle ended up
with 16 hits for the game while Minnesota had 10.  
 
Floyd Bannister(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings
and allowing 5 runs. Pete Redfern(0-1) was the loser.  He got hammered,
allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
