1982 NL Game: Hous. @ SD

August 11, 1982

A great pitching duel took place tonight in a game between the top 2 teams in the NL West. The 1st place San Diego Padres hosted the Houston Astros and it was the visitors that came out on top 1-0. Houston's Nolan Ryan (pictured) threw a 1-hit shutout in gaining his 12 Win of the season. Ryan walked 3 and struck out 7 while lowering his NL best ERA to 1.89. Ryan lost his no-hit bid in the 7th inning on a Sixto Lezcano double. Eric Show was the hard luck loser for the Padres. The only run scored against him was unearned due to a passed ball by catcher Terry Kennedy. The Win moved Houston within 1.5 games of front running San Diego.

Nolan Ryan carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Houston Astros beat
the San Diego Padres by a score of 1 to 0.

Ryan(12-7) was virtually untouchable. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and 3
walks in 9 innings. The right-handed Ryan lost his no-hit bid when Sixto
Lezcano doubled with one out in the 7th inning. The San Diego offense proved
no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.

Eric Show(5-3) was the loser. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow
an earned run in his 8 innings of work.
