Right fielder Al Cowens hit for the cycle and had 5 RBI as the Seattle
Mariners outscored the Boston Red Sox 8 to 5.

Cowens was a source of great heartache for the Boston faithful all day. He
just kept pounding out hits! He blasted a two-run home run in the 1st inning,
tripled plating two runs in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 7th inning and
slapped a single which brought home a run in the 8th inning. Boston had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Bob Stoddard(3-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 5 runs. Stoddard got help from Bill Caudill who earned his 28th
save. Chuck Rainey(4-7) took the loss. He was unable to control the Seattle
offense and allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Cowens was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want
to see how that game looks on paper.'
