1982 NL Standings

June 1, 1982

The first 2 months of the 1982 NL season is in the books. The St. Louis Cardinals really surged in May, going a league best 20-8 and moving past Montreal into 1st place in the NL East. St. Louis has the stingiest pitching staff (167 runs allowed) in MLB and their +72 Run Differential is the best in the NL. Pittsburgh kept pace with the Cardinals going 18-9 in May and trail by only 1 game.
In the NL West the San Diego Padres are still holding on to 1st place. The Houston Astros are right on their heels though, 2.5 GB. Atlanta and Los Angeles continue to under-perform and the Dodgers were a NL worst 9-19 in May. It's going to be tough for either team to get back into the mix.

1982 NL League Leaders

June 1, 1982

Here are the NL League Leaders as of June 1, 1982. To the surprise of many, San Diego's Terry Kennedy is leading the League in batting with a .405 BA. Montreal's Tim Wallach and Andre Dawson lead the league in HR and RBI respectively. Philadelphia's Steve Carlton leads in Wins with 8 and is 2nd in K's. Joe Niekro's (1.53) and Nolan Ryan's (1.66) ERA is one of the reasons the Astros are battling for the top spot in the NL West.
