October 17, 1982

The Montreal Expos were hitting on all cylinders and won Game 5 of the World Series, defeating the California Angels 10-5. Montreal had 18 hits and 8 walks in the game. 1982 World Series Game 4: Mon. @ Cal.

October 16, 1982

The California Angels won Game 5 of the World Series against the Montreal Expos today 7-5. The Angels had built a 4-0 lead and starter Tommy John carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning when Montreal tried to make a comeback. The Expos got back to back homeruns, for the 2nd time this Series, from Gary Carter and Al Oliver. California got back a run in the bottom of the 7th on a Brian Downing RBI single. Montreal scored again in the 8th and 9th innings, but California kept coming back themselves to maintain the lead. The key blow to the Expos was Bobby Grich's 2-run shot in the 8th off Doug Corbett. Dave Goltz came on to pitch in the bottom of the 9th and finally retired the Expos, preserving the Win for John getting his 1st save. California now holds a commanding 3 game to 1 lead in the Series.
Game 5 will be tomorrow in Anaheim. Geoff Zahn will start for the Angels. Montreal ace and Game 1 winner Steve Rogers will start for Montreal.
