1982 World Series game 3: Mon. @ Cal.

October 15, 1982

  The California Angels defeated the Montreal Expos 5-3 in extra innings today. Game 3 of the 1982 World Series was a tightly contested affair but the Angels were able to tie the game up 3-3 and send it to extra innings.
 In the bottom of 10th Rod Carew reached base on an error by Al Oliver. Fred Lynn followed but he struck out. Reggie Jackson then sent a deep flyball to right that Jerry White made a homerun robbing, game saving catch on. Burn Smith was brought in to face the righthanded hitter Don Baylor. Baylor (pictured) hit a mammoth blast to leftfield, winning the game and giving the Angels a 2-1 lead in the Series. Montreal's Warren Cromartie hit 2 homeruns in a losing effort for Montreal.
  Game 4 will be tomorrow here in Anaheim. Tommy John will start for California. Scott Sanderson gets the start for Montreal.

Designated hitter Don Baylor left the yard and had 2 RBI as the California
Angels defeated the Montreal Expos in 10 innings by the score of 5 to 3 at
Anaheim Stadium.
 
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Finally, California prevailed
in the 10th inning.  Rod Carew led off and got things going when he reached
on an error.  Fred Lynn was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.
One out later, Baylor then popped a two-run clout over the fence making
California the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  California
finished with 9 hits in the victory.  
 
Dave Goltz(1-0) allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Dave Tomlin(0-1) was the loser in relief.  He gave up 1 run and no
hits in 2/3 of an inning.
