1982 NL Game: Pit. @ Atl. Murphy Drives in 7

April 28, 1982

  In a close exciting finish the Atlanta Braves got by the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-7 tonight with a 3 run 9th inning rally. Pittsburgh had scored 3 runs in the top of the 9th for a 7-6 lead but the Braves Dale Murphy responded in the bottom of the 9th with a 3-run blast to win the game. For Murphy (pictured), it was his 2nd homer of the game and his 7 RBI are the most by anyone so far in this 1982 season.

Dale Murphy slammed 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the Atlanta Braves rallied
impressively to win in dramatic style over Pittsburgh Pirates, 9 to
7.
 
Atlanta came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th
inning plating 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits.  Brett Butler got things going
when he smacked a single.  Glenn Hubbard stepped into the batter's box and he
laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Claudell Washington then slapped a single.
Murphy came up and he lost the ball over the fence for three runs giving
Atlanta the victory and sending the 14,148 home-town fans home happy.  This
was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.
 
The victory went to Rick Camp(1-1) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing 1 run.
Kent Tekulve(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief.  The Atlanta ballclub's record
now stands at 9-10.  With the loss, Pittsburgh has a record of 4-6 lately,
8-8 overall.
