1982 AL Standings

May 15, 1982

We're halfway through the month of May in the 1982 MLB season. My Detroit Tigers continue to impress me with their winning ways. They've been well balanced in hitting and pitching (+49 Run Differential). One concern is the recent loss of Dave Rosema for the rest of the season. He may have been the most valuable pitcher on the staff. It's a tight race in the AL East and the Tigers will miss his spot starting and relieving in close games.
The California Angels have been the most dominate team so far this season. Their 27-9 record is good for 1st place in the AL West and a 5.5 game lead over the 2nd place Seattle Mariners.

1982 NL Standings

May 15, 1982

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been red-hot lately and now lead the NL East. Going 9-1 their last 10 games has allowed the Pirates to pass the Montreal Expos for the top spot in the division. It looks to be a very competitive division as only 5.5 games separate all the teams. The San Diego Padres still hold 1st place in the NL West. The Houston Astros continue to surprise everyone and are in 2nd place, only 2.5 games behind. The LA Dodgers have gotten off to a bad start on the season and if they don't get their offense going they'll be struggling all year.

1982 AL Game: Bsn. @ Min.

May 12, 1982

In the wildest game this year in the AL, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Boston Red Sox 14-13 in 10 innings. The lead changed hands 8 times and 7 homeruns were hit in the game. An AL record 27 runs were scored in the contest. The Twins Randy Bush (pictured) clubbed 3 of the homers, good for 5 RBI. After a see-saw 8 innings Boston scored 3 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 11-8 lead. But Minnesota came right back with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 9th to send the game to extra innings tied 11-11. The Red Sox tallied 2 runs in the top of the 10th, but once again the Twins came back in the bottom of the 10th. This time Minnesota scored 3 runs to finally win the game 14-13.

1982 AL Standings and League Leaders

May 1, 1982

The month of April is in the books for the 1982 MLB season. The California Angels have gotten off to the best start of any team this year. The Angels have had the best pitching and scored the most runs of any team in the AL. Their run differential is  +63. Don Baylor (.287, 9 HR, 23 RBI), Brian Downing (.270, 8, 21), Doug Decinces (.329, 4, 21), and Rod Carew (.431 BA, 15 RS) have led the offense. Mike Witt (4-1, 1.76 ERA), Ken Forsch (3-0, 2.86) and Luis Sanchez ( 3-0, 2.87, 2 Saves) head a very good pitching staff. As well as the Angels have played, the Seattle Mariners aren't letting them get too far ahead. The Mariners are off to a 15-8 start, 2.5 games behind.
My Detroit Tigers have also gotten off to a fine start. They lead the AL East with a 14-7 record. All the teams in the AL East, except for Toronto, are into the thick of a good pennant race. Baltimore's Eddie Murray (.444 BA, 10 HR, 26 RBI) has been the overall best hitter in MLB so far this year.

1982 NL Standings and League Leaders

May 1, 1982

The first month of the 1982 season is over. Hopefully better weather will now continue the rest of the year. The Montreal Expos have gotten off to the best start in the NL East. San Diego and San Francisco lead the West. The 'actual' top teams in the NL at season's end have gotten off to poor starts. St. Louis, Atlanta and Los Angeles have some making up to do.
Montreal has gotten excellent production from Andre Dawson (.411,4 HR 18 RBI) , Tim Wallach (.364, 8, 18) , and Gary Carter (.410, 4, 13). Scott Sanderson (2-0, 1.65 ERA), Steve Rogers (3-0, 2.80), Bill Gullickson (2-1, 2.25) and Woodie Fryman (1-1, 2.25, 2 Saves) head a fine pitching staff for the Expos.

1982 AL Game of Note: Det. @ NY

April 23, 1982

New York's Dave Righetti struck out a 1982 MLB season high 14 batters tonight but still was saddled with a Loss as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Yankees 6-3. Righetti (pictured) was let down by his defense as 2 New York errors proved costly. Only 2 of Detroit's 6 runs were earned runs. The Tigers scored 4 in the 1st and 2 in the 9th. In between those innings, Righetti was mowing down the batters but still ended up with a Loss. He certainly deserved a better fate tonight.
