1982 AL Game: Mil. @ Det

June 18, 1982

After a tough loss in game 1 of a 4 game series against the Milwaukee Brewers when Gorman Thomas hit a 2 run homer in the 9th inning, the Detroit Tigers bounced back in game 2 by flexing their own muscles. The Tigers hit 6 homeruns in the game and smashed Milwaukee 12-4. Larry Herndon came out of a recent slump by hitting 2 homers. The 6 HR are the most hit in a game by any team so far this season.

1982 Detroit Tigers Update

June 16, 1982

My Detroit Tigers lead the AL East. However, the Tigers have a tough stretch in the schedule coming up. They play 17 straight days against the teams right behind them in the Standings:  4 games vs. Milwaukee, 6 vs. Boston, and 7 vs. Baltimore. Detroit is 1-3 against the Brewers this season and have yet to play the Red Sox or Orioles. This stretch of games could be very telling how the Tigers stack up against their closest rivals.

1982 AL Standings and League Leaders

June 16, 1982

The pace has slowed considerably in my 1982 MLB replay. Summer "life" and "activities" have been the main reason. Anyway, here are the Standings and League Leaders in the AL, halfway through the month of June.
My Detroit Tigers are still in 1st in the AL East. The Tigers and California Angels, leaders in the AL West, are 1,2 in runs scored in the AL. Baltimore, Boston and Milwaukee are chasing Detroit in the East. Kansas City and Seattle are chasing California.
Baltimore's Eddie Murray leads the AL in BA (.370) and is 3rd in RBI (44). Boston's Dwight Evans leads in HR (16) and RBI (46). Cleveland's Len Barker is the only 10 game winner in MLB at this point. Barker is also 5th in ERA (2.16) and 3rd in K's (84). The Angels, besides being 2nd in RS (315), are 1st in RA (229). This gives California a league best +86 DIFF.

1982 ANL Standings and League Leaders

June 16, 1982

It's taken a while but the 1982 MLB season is through the 1st half of June. The St. Louis Cardinals have moved into 1st place in the NL East with a small lead over the hot Pittsburgh Pirates and Montreal Expos. Philadelphia and Chicago are still in the mix. The Cardinals boast the stingiest pitching staff in the NL. while Pittsburgh has scored more runs than any team. Montreal's Tim Wallach and Andre Dawson are powering the Expos run for the pennant.
In the NL West, the San Diego Padres are still clinging to 1st place with the Houston Astros 4 GB.
Padres' catcher Terry Kennedy is hitting at a .381 clip, tops in the NL.
