1982 AL Game: Det. @ Clev.

June 14, 1982

  Detroit's Jack Morris matched up against Cleveland's Len Barker tonight to see if either pitcher could become MLB's first 10 game winner this season. Barker (pictured) brought his "A" game and ended up with his 10th victory as the Indians defeated the Tigers 5-1. Barker only allowed 2 hits and struck out 10. He lost his shutout bid with 2 out in the 9th when Lou Whitaker homered for Detroit.

Len Barker allowed just 2 hits as the Cleveland Indians bested the Detroit
Tigers 5 to 1 at Municipal Stadium.
 
Cleveland took the lead for good in the 2nd inning scoring a single run on 2
hits.  Cleveland banged out 7 hits on the night.  
 
The win was credited to Barker(10-1) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
Jack Morris(9-6) was charged with the loss.  
 
Sparky Anderson was upset after the game.  'I don't like to complain but did
you see that umpires strike zone?', he said.  'Maybe they ought to start
calling the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'
